Instructor: Tom Dougherty. This course meets TR 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. in PE 2066.

This PPE Capstone Course addresses issues concerning property and territoriality. We will consider what default claims people initially have to land and resources in a state of nature, before considering what could justify individuals in appropriating these and what could justify states in claiming sovereignty over parts of the world. The course will both engage with classic texts and address contemporary issues, such as immigration, conflict over resources, and climate change.

This course is for graduating senior PPE minors who have (1) taken the 384 Gateway course and (2) have taken (or are taking) all other courses necessary to complete the PPE minor.
