Instructor: Carla Merino-Rajme. This course meets TR 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in CW 208.

In this seminar, we will focus on the topic of consciousness. We will ask questions such as: When we speak of consciousness, what are we talking about? Are zombies possible and what could we learn from considering this question? What is the relationship between consciousness and the brain? Can someone who has never seen any color learn what it is like to see blue from reading a black and white book? Could there be someone for which red objects looked yellow and the other way round? Can virtual worlds have conscious beings? We will focus on developing presentation and argumentation skills, as well as in the process of writing and re-writing a philosophy paper.

This course is recommended for all PHIL majors and minors.

Prerequisite: 2 PHIL courses.
