Instructor: Matthew Kotzen. This course meets MW 10:10 – 11:00 a.m. in AR 121, with a recitation on Fridays.

This course is a general introduction to philosophical questions, methods, discussion, reading, and writing. We will presume no background at all in philosophy. We will be discussing various philosophical topics in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science, as well as the methodology that philosophers use to approach these topics. There will be a heavy emphasis on learning to discuss and write about philosophical issues; hence, Recitation is a vital component of the course.
