PHIL 292.001 – Introducing and Integrating Philosophy into Primary and Secondary Schools
Instructor: Steven Swartzer. This course meets TR 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in CW 208.
Pre-College Philosophy is an experiential education course designed for students with an interest in practical ethics, education, and public philosophy. In this class, we will examine a wide range of issues in practical and theoretical ethics; we will also work with high school students in the triangle area, preparing them to excel in the North Carolina Regional High School Ethics Bowl competition. Class members will take an active role in their own philosophical learning, thereby deepening their own understanding of practical ethics and moral decision-making, and gaining insights into the extent to which young people are capable of mature and reflective moral reasoning.
Permission of the instructor is required to enroll in this course.
Prerequisite: 2 PHIL courses.
