Instructor: Zev Berger. This course meets MW 3:35 – 4:50 p.m. in DE 403.

This course aims to give students the skills to translate their PPE career into tangible, real-world results, by synthesizing both theoretical and practical considerations. We begin the semester by thinking about what contributes to a successful policy intervention and what leads to a good set of goals. We look at why some problems deserve our attention and how to evaluate which problems can plausibly be solved. Then, students will work to address a problem in the UNC community that can be changed for the better. Using cutting edge empirical research methods and statistical software, students will present their findings, illustrating how a potential pilot program might be implemented and why there is reason to believe that such a program would in fact be successful.

This course is for graduating senior PPE minors who have (1) taken the 384 Gateway course and (2) have taken (or are taking) all other courses necessary to complete the PPE minor.
