Instructor: Mike Bertrand. This course meets on MWF 9:00 – 9:50 a.m. in PE 216.
This course will explore some perennial philosophical problems and themes by reading and discussing selected “Great Works” in philosophy. The authors we will read cover a large stretch of human history, roughly 400 B.C.E. to the 20th century C.E. We will address questions regarding the value of our values, God’s existence, the external world, moral decision making and obligation, miracles, the nature of the human mind, and the limits of human knowledge.
