Instructor: Robert Smithson. This course meets MTWRF 11:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. in DE 303A.
In this course, we will discuss three broad families of moral challenges relating to our interest in human health: those that bear on the respect for human life, those that bear on the relationships between practitioners and patients, and those that bear on the distribution of medical attention within our communities. Specifically, we will consider issues such as: abortion and reproductive technologies, end of life treatment, respect for patient autonomy, US healthcare policy, prenatal testing, disability rights, and the ethics of human research.
