PHIL/RELI 134/126.001 – Philosophy of Western Religion
Instructor: Ryan Preston-Roedder. This course meets MW 10:10 to 11 a.m. in AR 121 with a recitation on Fridays.
This course will explore some of the main topics in philosophy of religion by drawing on works in philosophy, literature, and film. The questions we will consider include: Does God exist? What is faith, and is it rational? Do we survive our bodily deaths, and if not, should we fear death? We will also explore the implications of answers to these questions for the meaning and value of our lives. The course will include readings by Dostoevsky, Viktor Frankl, William James, C.S. Lewis, and Tolstoy.
