Instructor: Erik Zhang. This course meets TR 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in DE 307.

This course examines some of the central issues and key debates in the philosophy of law. In one part of the course, we will explore general questions such as, What is law? What is the relation between law and morality? Do we have an obligation to obey the law? Under what conditions is a person responsible for her conduct? Can punishment be justified? In another part, we will investigate legal and philosophical issues arising from the particular domains of free speech, abortion, and affirmative action among others.
