Philosophy of Western Religion (PHIL 134 Section 002)

Course Description:
We will make a philosophical inquiry into: a) religious experience and belief; b) Nietzsche’s critique of Christian morality; c) Rawls, Habermas and Pope Benedict XVI on Islam and democracy; d) secularism as a concept, and religion in the public sphere; e) traditional arguments for the existence of God; f) Rorty and Vattimo on religion and progress; g) contemporary empirical research on the psychology of religiosity.
