PHIL 292.001 – Field Work in Philosophy: Introducing Philosophy in Primary and Secondary Schools
Instructor: Steven Swartzer. This course meets TR 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in CW 208.
In this experiential education/service learning class, we will learn about a wide range of issues in practical and theoretical ethics by working to help high school students in the Triangle area prepare for the NC Regional High School Ethics Bowl. Class members will learn about the high school ethics bowl as a tool for moral education, and will do volunteer work helping local teams. Class time will be devoted to learning about normative ethics, discussing the regional ethical bowl cases, and learning how to facilitate philosophical conversations with high school students.
Permission of the instructor is required to enroll in this course.
Prerequisite: 2 PHIL courses.
