Instructor: Michael Burroughs. This class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. in Wilson 128.

High School Ethics Bowl is an innovative and growing program, designed to engage high school students in deep ethical thinking via a competition format. The first local HSEB was held at UNC-CH in 2011, the second this spring, and this fall the first North Carolina High School Ethics Bowl will be held on campus.

Students enrolled in this course will first research ethical theories, high school ethics bowl cases, rules, and procedures, and effective methods for engaging these materials with high school students. Next they will test their research and ability by engaging with teams: in person with local high schools and potentially using technology with high schools elsewhere in North Carolina. They will assist the teams in preparing for the competition (scheduled for November), and then finish by summarizing their research and materials used in a final report.

This course satisfies the Experiential Education (EE) requirement.
