PHIL 165.003 – Bioethics
Instructor: Yoaav Isaacs. This course meets MW 2:30 – 3:45 p.m. in PH 381.
Is abortion morally permissible? Should people be allowed to genetically engineer their children? Should euthanasia be legal? Would it be good to live forever (and if so, how good)? How should healthcare be managed? What are our duties to the global poor? These are some of the toughest, most pressing questions in practical ethics, and they are the questions that this course will address. Your preconceived notions will be challenged and your patterns of reasoning will be enriched. Strange, new ideas will become familiar and familiar ideas will come to seem strange. And the benefits of this course are not solely abstract. Through thinking carefully about how people ought to live, you will lead a better life.
