PHIL 230.001 – Experience & Reality
Instructor: Kyle Driggers. The course meets MTWRF 9:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. in DA 101.
This course is an introduction to metaphysics. We will be concerned with questions like the following: (1) What makes you the same person now as when you were two years old? (2) Do we have free will? That is, are our actions ultimately within our control? (3) Why is there something rather than nothing? (4) What is the nature of time? Does it flow or is it a static four-dimensional manifold? (5) How should we understand possibly and necessity? Does everything happen the way it does necessarily or are there other ways the world could have been?
Course grades will be determined by participation in focused group discussions, short reading responses, two 5-7 page papers, and a final exam.
