Teaching Workshop on Discussing Politics in the Classroom

Ram Neta, Jeff Sebo, and Lauren Townsend will lead a discussion on pedagogical issues that arise when discussing politics in the classroom. Topics of interest include: how to talk about touchy subjects, whether, as instructors, it is better to be neutral or to take a stand on current events, how, if at all, to condemn disrespectful (racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.) opinions students may voice during discussion, and how to ensure political discussions are mutually respectful while remaining critical and constructive.
