Development’s New Initiative: Changing Harmful Social Norms
For organizations like UNICEF and the World Bank, social norms can be a severe impediment to development goals. For this reason, these agencies have invested in finding the tools necessary to change harmful social norms. In this talk, Chris Melenovsky will discuss the ways that he, other social scientists, and philosophers have worked with UNICEF to help change harmful social norms across the world. Among the questions he will explore are: When is a problem due to a social norm, rather, than to a lack of resources? What tools can be effective is changing long-standing social norms?
Lunch will be provided! This event is free and open to all. Registration is kindly required.
