Speaker Series: Michael Della Rocca (Yale)

Michael Della Rocca teaches at the Department of Philosophy at Yale University. His primary interests are in early modern (17th and 18th century) philosophy, especially the rationalist philosophers Spinoza. Michael also has a significant (non-philosophical) interest in the Mets. Women's only Diversity Lunch with Guest Speaker Professor Sheila Kannappan This Diversity Lunch meeting is open to all women graduate students and faculty in the philosophy department. Professor Kannappan from the Physics department will talk to us about issues like academic grit, imposter-syndrome, trying to survive and be successful in a male-dominated field, overcoming fears about speaking up, how to deal with boy's club networks, etc. Lunch will be provided by the department.

Join us at Gerrard Hall for an evening of food and drink, and "15 Minutes of Philosophy" with Markus Kohl, Laurie Paul and Tamara Fakhoury! "Deliberation, Reasons, and Alternatives" Abstract: Many philosophers hold that normative reasons for action must be (perhaps among other things) good premises for deliberation about what to do. This opens up the possibility of arguing for certain claims about the nature of reasons from claims about good deliberation.
