William G Lycan, William Rand Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor in the Department of Philosophy, has been elected an honorary fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. The Academy lauds Lycan as “among the most prolific and influential philosophers writing on metaphysics, philosophy of the mind and philosophy of language. Professor Lycan’s approach to many of these issues is consonant with the broad tradition of Australian metaphysics, and he is a powerful advocate for the general approach to philosophical problem solving associated with many Australian philosophers. Professor Lycan is a regular visitor to Australia, and has been a visiting lecturer and research fellow at The University of Sydney and The Australian National University.” David Lewis is the only other American philosopher to have been so honored.
