PHIL/ENEC 368H.001 – Honors: Living Things, Wilderness, and Ecosystems: An Introduction to Environmental Ethics
Instructor: Douglas MacLean. This course meets MW 3:35 – 4:50 p.m. in PE 2066.
This course will explore the nature of environmental values and topics in moral philosophy that relate to environmental values and environmental ethics. How should we value nature or the environment, and what kind of claims does nature make on us? Does nature or the environment have value beyond being a resource for humans to use? If so, how do we explain or justify this value, and what are its implications? What is the moral status of animals, species, wilderness, and ecosystems? What are the important ethical issues raised by climate change?
