IDEAs in Action: Which curricular requirements does this course satisfy?

Instructor: Gabriella Hulsey. This course meets TR 8:00 – 9:15 a.m. in GL 302.

This course approaches traditional business ethics topics through a non-traditional lens. We will cover the academic literature on business ethics, but the course emphasizes real-world applications of concepts and theories. We will examine ethical issues which arise in all kinds of markets. Possible markets we will look at include the recruiting market for college athletes, the market for firearms, and the market for sex and reproductive labor.

Possible topics of discussion include:

  1. Is it ethical to have markets in the first place?
  2. What is the purpose of a business?
  3. What rights, if any, do consumers have?
  4. What are businesses responsible for?
  5. How should governments regulate businesses and markets?
  6. How should businesses be structured?

This course is oriented around a series of projects, including case studies, memos, and mock consulting cases.
