Instructor: Jim Sias. This course meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 – 11:50 a.m.

In this course, we’ll examine a few of the issues that we generally take to lie at the core of who we are as human beings.  First, is morality our own invention?  Or is it somehow independent of us, out there in the world for us to discover?  Second, do we have free will?  Or are all of our actions determined for us by factors outside of our control?  And finally, is there a god who created us?  Or are we merely the products of evolution?  In the course of examining these issues, we’ll read from both historical and contemporary philosophical texts, ranging from Plato to modern day.
