Instructor: Megan Mitchell. This course meets Monday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This course examines the foundations and practical applications of counties’ ethical obligations to their citizens, each other and the citizens of other counties.  Topics discussed include realism, democratic peace theory, revolution and succession, terrorism, pacifism, nuclear war, the ethical conduct of soldiers and civilians, espionage, etc.  There are two required texts (Just and Unjust Wars by Michael Walzer and Immanuel Kant’s Perpetual Peace), 2 exams (a midterm and a final), and two papers.  Whenever possible, efforts will be made to use present-day examples for illustration and discussion.
