PHIL 735.001 – Advanced Studies in Epistemology (Applied Epistemology)
Instructor: Alex Worsnip. This course meets T 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. in CW 213.
This seminar will be in applied epistemology, an exciting and relatively nascent subfield applying the questions and tools of epistemology to issues of pressing public concern. The seminar will introduce you to some of the most important cutting-edge work in this area. Topics will include at least the following: deference to experts, conspiracy theories, echo chambers, political disagreement, polarization and partisanship, and motivated reasoning. We will read works by, among others, Yuval Avnur, David Christensen, Kevin Dorst, Rishi Joshi, Thomas Kelly, Jennifer Lackey, Robin McKenna, Giulia Napolitano, Thi Nguyen, Regina Rini, and Dan Williams.
