In this course, we will attempt to understand the peculiar content of first-person thoughts, the peculiar epistemology of first-person thoughts, and how they are related.  We will begin with classic works by David Lewis, John Perry, Elizabeth Anscombe and Gareth Evans, and then turn to more recent work by Christine Korsgaard, Richard Moran, Pamela Hieronymi, Tamar Lando, Brie Gertler, and Matthew Boyle.

 

Please note: This course counts toward the “metaphysics and epistemology” distribution requirement for PHIL grad students.

Permission of the instructor is required to enroll in this course. PHIL grad students are exempt from this enrollment requirement.
