PHIL 720.001 – Modern Philosophy
Instructor: Alan Nelson. This course meets R 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. in CW 213.
An intensive study of the philosophy of Spinoza mostly based on hismagnum opus, the Ethics. Some attention, however, will be devoted to his other writings insofar as they bear on the Ethics. If any participants are interested in Spinozistic themes in recent work on dependence, grounding, causation, rationality, foundationalism, panpsychism, etc., they will be encouraged (but not required) to compare it with the original. Writings from Descartes, Leibniz, and Kant might also make cameo appearances.
