Philosophy of Mind (PHIL 440/001)
Instructor: William Lycan. This course meets on Wednesdays from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. in Caldwell 105.
We shall examine the four standard competing theories of mind: Dualism, Behaviorism, the Identity Theory, and Functionalism. Then we shall take up some special topics: problems of intentionality; and problems of consciousness, subjectivity, and the qualitative character of sensory experience.
This course will fulfill the M/E requirement.
