CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER — Amy Perko, “Athletics, Academics, and Ethics”

February 25, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Amy Perko has served as executive director of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics since 2005.  Having served in various leadership positions in sports for 25 years, Perko is a recognized leader on college sports issues. In 2012, Perko received the NCAA’s prestigious Silver Anniversary Award given to six former college athletes to recognize their civic and professional contributions on the occasion of their 25th college graduation anniversary.

In 2010, the commission released its third major report—“Restoring the Balance: Dollars, Values and the Future of College Sports.” A year later, the NCAA Board of Directors adopted one of the report’s key recommendations requiring teams to be on track to graduate 50% of their players to be eligible for postseason championships.

Perko has been quoted and interviewed by prominent news media, including ESPN, USA TODAY, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and numerous public radio stations. She has published commentaries on college sports issues, including two in The New York Times: “Promoting Academics in College Sports” and “Colleges Can Take Action Without an Athletes’ Union.”

Perko graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest University. She played college basketball and earned All ACC and Academic All-America honors. She is a member of the Wake Forest University Sports Hall of Fame and the national Academic All-America Hall of Fame.

Pizza will be served.
