Rebecca Walker is a professor in the Philosophy Department at UNC, with a joint appointment in the Department of Social Medicine in the School of Medicine. She uses philosophical and empirical research methods to address questions at the intersection of biomedicine and ethics. Her areas of focus include animal ethics, practical virtue ethics, and topics in health justice. She has published widely in prominent bioethics, science, philosophy, and medicine journals, and her co-edited books include Working Virtue: Virtue Ethics and Contemporary Moral Problems (2007); Understanding Health Inequalities and Justice (2016); and the two-volume Social Medicine Reader (2019). Her monograph Of Mice and Primates: Virtue Ethics and Animal Research is forthcoming with Oxford University Press.
