Educational Ethics in Pandemic Times

November 13, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Morehead Planetarium, the Department of Philosophy, and the Parr Center for Ethics are pleased to invite K-12 educators to participate in the inaugural session of “Educational Ethics in Pandemic Times.” This event will provide an unprecedented opportunity for educators to reflect on ethical tensions and dilemmas that arise in the context of their professional practice, especially issues related to science education and the ongoing pandemic. Participants will be equipped with a conceptual toolkit that will enable them to effectively think through and respond to ethical dilemmas and policy disagreements within our schools. Participants will also be given the opportunity to deliberate alongside fellow educators, across lines of division and disagreement, in an empathetic and collaborative way. In addition to a keynote lecture by UNC philosopher Alex Worsnip, we’ll be joined by NC State’s Paula McAvoy and other facilitators for small group deliberation about educational case studies on climate change and vaccine skepticism. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Please direct any inquires to Dr. Michael Vazquez (michael.vazquez@unc.edu)
