YOLONDA WILSON
Graduate Student

Originally from Albany, Georgia, Yolonda Wilson is a proud two-time graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. She received her B.A. in Politcal Science and her Master's in Africana Philosophy. Her Master's thesis at Howard University was on Anna Julia Cooper. The Master's thesis which Yolonda completed at UNC-CH is entitled "Preventive Detention." In her thesis, Yolonda explored whether the state's interest in protecting its citizens can (or should) ever be strong enough to detain those who have not yet committed a crime, even when there is a strong likelihood that they will. She focused on the case of repeat sex offenders. Yolonda recently presented a paper at the 2004 Central Division APA entitled, "The Philosophical Activism of Anna Julia Cooper: Cooper, Black Women, and Self-Respect." Her philosophical interests include social and political philosophy, Africana philosophy, and philosophy of law. [Complete CV]
