Instructor: Mike Bertrand. This course meets MTWRF 9:45 – 11:15 a.m. in CW 213.

This course is designed as an introduction to philosophy, in which we will grapple with several of the most fundamental philosophical puzzles one encounters when trying to understand ourselves and our place in the world. Questions addressed include: If God exists, why is there so much evil in the world? If there is no God, are our lives meaningless? How can we live meaningful lives? How can we, as physical beings, have mental experience? Why should we be moral? What is the nature of happiness? How can we live meaningful lives? The answers explored in this class will survey a variety of possible ways to make sense of ourselves.

This course satisfies the PH general education requirement.
