Instructor: Katie Elliott. This course meets Monday – Friday from 1:15 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. in Caldwell 103.

Questions pertaining to what the world is like and how we can know of it are some of the most fundamental questions one can puzzle over. These questions are at the core of the philosophical study of metaphysics and epistemology. Metaphysics is the study of the ultimate nature of reality. Epistemology is the study of the nature of knowledge. This course is an introduction to some of the most important issues in these two areas that aims to familiarize you with metaphysical and epistemological concepts and arguments, as well as to frustrate and hopefully fascinate you with some of the stubborn puzzles these two areas of inquiry offer. No background in philosophy is presupposed.
