PHIL/POLI/PWAD 272.001 – The Ethics of Peace, War, and Defense

Instructor: Lauren Townsend. This course meets MWF 11:15 a.m. – 12:05 p.m. in NW 219.

This course will engage students in the ethical issues surrounding peace, war, and defense possibly including questions such as who ought to be required to/allowed to fight in wars, whether war is ever justified, whether peace is a sensible goal, and what to do about the effect of wars on civilians. We will talk about pacifism, just war theory, issues of gender and war, as well as issues of violence and peace that extend beyond war.
