Instructor: Simon Blackburn. The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays in Saunders 204 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

This course will introduce students to the elements of ethical thought, including such notions as objectivity, relativism, knowledge, truth, and reason in connection with ethical and moral issues. The weekly readings will consist partly of ‘classics’ from Aristotle through Hume and Kant to the twentieth century, and partly of papers selected from the journals. We will be particularly concerned with issues of standards and authority. Grading will be via mid-term papers and course work.
