Piers Norris Turner is a graduate student focusing on political philosophy and social epistemology. He received a B.A. in philosophy from Yale University, and a Master's of Science in the philosophy and history of science from the London School of Economics. His dissertation examines social epistemic arguments for liberal political institutions, focusing on the work of John Stuart Mill. His M.A. thesis on epistemic normativity was entitled "Epistemic Deontology and the Consequentialist Consensus". He has also co-edited a volume of previously unpublished and uncollected essays, speeches, and letters on political topics by the 20th century social democrat, Karl Popper (After The Open Society: Selected Social and Political Writings, Routledge 2008).
Piers organizes the Carolina Philosophy Retreat, which takes place in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, near Piers' hometown of Syracuse, NY. Piers also served as the first Outreach Coordinator for the department.
