Bar-On wins NSF Research Grant

On completing a one year term as Vice President, which begins in the Fall of 2009, Professor Wolf becomes the President of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association for 2010-2011.

Wolf named Phi Beta Kappa Romenell Lecturer

This distinguished lecture series is awarded to recognize those who have made a significant "contribution to public understanding of philosophy." Her lecture series will be offered in the Spring of 2010 on the Chapel Hill campus.

Parr Center wins APA Prize

The Parr Center for Ethics has won the American Philosophical Association's Prize for Excellence and Innovation in Philosophy Programs.

Mandelbaum wins Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Fellowship.

Eric Mandelbaum will be finishing work on his dissertaiton, which is about the irrationality and modularity of learning and belief formation. Incidentally, we are the only Department in the country, philosophy or otherwise, to have two consecutive graduate students win this prestigious fellowship.

Simmons and Bowers Win Teaching Awards

Two (more!) members of the Philosophy Department have won University-wide teaching awards. Keith Simmons won an award for post-baccalaureate instruction and Jason Bowers won one for undergraduate teaching. No other department in the University has a higher proportion of teaching award winners.

Marilyn and Bob Adams join Chapel Hill Philosophy Department

Marilyn McCord Adams and Robert Merrihew Adams, both recently of Oxford University, have joined the Chapel Hill Philosophy Department. They bring dramatic strength in the history of medieval and modern philosophy, in philosophy of religion, in metaphysics, and in moral theory.
