“Does no really mean no in trauma-informed medical care?”

Dr. Amina White is Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, UNC School of Medicine. She will be speaking about dilemmas that clinicians face in providing obstetrical care for survivors of childhood or adult sexual abuse who may perceive certain routine or emergency procedures during labor and delivery as reminiscent of past trauma. She will also discuss how clinicians should react when patients withdraw consent for emergency procedures that can be very scary and potentially re-traumatizing for a mother but potentially life saving for the baby at the time of delivery.
