Difficult Faculty Conversations: Gender Equity in Higher Education

April 5, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

As college professors, how can we ethically and effectively resist sexism and cissexism on campus, in academia, and in society more generally? This question arises in all aspects of our work. For example, in our research we face questions about which topics to address, which scholars to cite, and which venues to publish and present in. In our teaching we face questions about which topics to cover, which authors to assign, and which pedagogies to employ. And in our service we face questions about how to navigate our many personal and professional roles and commitments while attempting to create a safe, welcoming environment for students and colleagues of all gender identities and expressions.

Please join the Institute for the Arts and Humanities and the Parr Center for Ethics for an hour-long lunchtime discussion about this topic facilitated by Kumi Silva (Department of Communication, UNC-Chapel Hill). Our discussion will cover a wide range of examples from research, teaching, and service.

This event is free and open to all UNC-Chapel Hill faculty members and PhD students. Lunch will be provided, and registration is kindly required.
