Kenan Visiting Professor

Paul Russell, from the University of British Columbia, will be a Kenan Visiting Professor in the Chapel Hill Philosophy Department during the 2005 spring semester. He specializes in 17th and 18th century history of philosophy and ethics, social, and political philosphy. Sample publications: Freedom and Moral Sentiment: Hume's Way of Naturalizing Responsibility, (1995); "Smith on Moral Sentiment and Moral Luck," History of Philosophy Quarterly, vol. 16 (1999); "Pessimists, Pollyannas and the New Compatibilism" in The Oxford Handbook on Free Will, ed. Robert Kane, (2002); and the forthcoming Irreligion and Hume's Treatise.
